Enlightened Horizons

These "landscapesque" paintings are meant to feel earthly; from a world of nature and elements of familiarity. They are meant to resemble the known but serve as an invitation into the unknown. The technique of these paintings is based on an exploration of texture. Inspired by the way I see the colors of nature interact with one another, I want to expand the properties of paint and its relationship to the canvas.

Color Fields

This large color theory series called Color Fields is inspired by the artist Mark Rothko. The paintings are supposed to be fields of color that evoke certain emotions depending on the viewers’ reaction.  Rothko himself says “Once color is out of the paint can, it is seen in the world of human action in relation to the time and the event of the day and the eyes for whom the time and events occur. The paintings are meant to expand in any given space, pulling you into the painting and out of the current moment. I hoped to further explore the effects of color and its relationship with the viewer.

Dimensions

The concept behind this series was an exploration of the differences of light in relation to the different times of the day. From there the possibilities with the size of the canvas allowed these forms to appear larger than life through spatial positioning. It became about not depicting the exact colors, but rather expressing the feeling of color as they evolve throughout the day. I dove into the illusion of different dimensions, while exploring how the line and space appear and reappear.

Fire

As part of an abstract expressionist exploration this painting was inspired by Joseph Mallord William Turner. He is a painter, printmaker, and watercolorist known for his expressive colorisation, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings.

Portraiture

These portraits were private commissions for friends and family. They are graphite on Bristol paper, both square formats. It was exciting to create a unique gift to capture a memory that will last forever.
